New Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce Priced from €48,500

The new Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce expands the range introduced earlier this year with a particularly powerful model. The chassis and suspension of this top model have now completed their final development phase, prompting the manufacturer to announce the price and all technical details.

According to the Italians, the Junior Veloce translates the sportiness of the brand into a premium B-SUV. “It combines perfect weight distribution, excellent driving dynamics, and innovative drive technology with that timeless beauty that has been the hallmark of Alfa Romeo design since 1910.” Two novelties characterize the top version: for the first time, the brand uses an electric drive with 207 kW (280 hp). Another innovation is the mechanical limited-slip differential, which prevents the driven front wheels from spinning.

Specifically, a newly developed hybrid synchronous motor is used, achieving a maximum speed of 15,200 rpm. The power output is 207 kW (280 hp), with a maximum torque of 345 Newton meters. This enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km/h. The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 54 kWh allows for a range of around 400 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. With fast charging at 100 kW (DC), the battery pack can be charged from ten to eighty percent in less than 30 minutes.

To transfer the high power to the road without wheel spin, the Junior Veloce’s front axle is equipped with a newly developed limited-slip differential. The Torsen type differential (for torque sensing) works purely mechanically and thus represents an absolute rarity in the world of fully electric vehicles, emphasizes Alfa Romeo.

Additionally, the new Junior Veloce features more direct steering and a chassis lowered by 25 millimeters compared to other models in the range. Reinforced stabilizers on the front and rear axles reduce body roll in fast corners. A sports braking system provides deceleration. “The 20-inch alloy wheels are equipped with tires whose properties are tailored to the specific requirements of high-performance electric vehicles,” they say.
